Ficus carica (fig tree)

Fig #1
Snapped from tree: 29 June 2001
dipped in rooting hormone and potted: 30 June 2001

I am trying to create "greenhouse conditions" by sealing it in a plastic bag overnight:

Half a month later, all of the leaves have died off and there is no sign that the rooting has taken.

Figs #2 & 3
dipped in rooting hormone and potted: 30 June 2001

These two figs were potted on the same day. One is doing poorly; its leaves have fallen off and its stems are browning. The other is doing well; its leaves are still green and have only wilted.

Figs #4
air layering begun: 30 June 2001
removed from tree: 15 July 2001

My boyfriend's first air layering experiment was the only fig that kept its leaves for any length of time, but eventually they too all died off.

On Monday, 20 August 2001 I noticed the first of the new leaves had sprouted.

Persistent watering helped the fig to grow a new set a leaves in 2003.
