Banana tree
I purchased a six inch banana tree of unknown variety
sometime around 1998 at a nursery in Los Angeles. It reached a
substantial height in a lage pot in a sunny window and produced a second
tree (sucker), which I transfered to its own pot, when watered often
enough. Both trees need more care (i.e. water) than they were getting in
Los Angeles. They were moved to my new home mid-July 2001.
Hopefully they will bear fruit next season.

There are two trees. The one on the left is older, but smaller due to neglect. On the left of its trunk, are two suckers which will soon be removed and potted in their own pots. The the right of the trunk is a weed, but I think it might be a sunflower, so I haven't removed it yet. The tree on the right is younger and is growing well. Both trees have survived an infestation of white flies and scales.
I have read that banana trees can grow up to 2 feet a
week when fully established. Here is a page on how
to grow Banana Trees.
